Bio of Dawnette Meredith
The local paper recently called her the “Carmel Valley Dog Whisperer”. A title given for her skill at solving problem dog behaviors and her fast rise as a top competitor in high level canine obedience, earning nearly perfect scores.
Her fascination with dog behavior and canine intelligence started when she watched her grandmother’s Border Collies herd sheep, practice for obedience competitions and entertain themselves on the farm. She watched retrievers in a nearby lake work in tandem with their owners. The canine’s ability to learn and problem solve sparked a life long passion. As the daughter of English Bulldog breeders, Dawnette entered her first dog show at the age of 12
with her Bulldog “Pepper.”
Dawnette studied psychology and philosophy at Indiana University. Her desire for every dog and owner to live together joyfully translated into a career dedicated to this goal. Dawnette strives to enrich the human/canine relationship by teaching loving leadership and educating owners about the physical and mental needs of their dogs. She specializes in modifying problem behaviors and obedience.
Dawnette’s skills as a trainer are evidenced by the many happy owners and dogs she has helped and by her quick rise to the top of competitive canine obedience. In this highly demanding sport, perfection, accuracy and teamwork are meticulously scored. Dawnette and her dog Daisy, have earned over 50 wins with nearly perfect scores, such as a recent score of 199.5 (out of 200). She says “training and competing at this level deepens the bond between dog and
handler. You become teammates in a dance of precision, highly attuned to each other’s every movement.” Dawnette designs and develops products for competitive obedience training. Many of her products are sold by companies specializing in compition supplies and equipment. She is actively involved with Therapy Dog International, and a member of All Breed Obedience Club, Hidden Valley Obedience Club and the Golden Retriever Club of America.
She regularly participates in “Paws for Reading”, a volunteer program encouraging kids to read aloud to kind-hearted dogs. She trains dogs and owners from her home based business, “Good Dog”.
